This video demonstrates occipital decompression for Chiari malformation with syringomyelia.
The key is to expand the posterior thoracic volume while sufficiently decompressing the foramen magnum.
Although there are some variations in the surgical method, in this surgery, C1 laminectomy was performed along with duraplasty.
The arachnoid membrane was preserved to prevent adhesion.
