Burr hole trephination for drainage of subdural hemorrhage in children under 1 year of age is slightly different from that in adults.
Because the bone is thin, a punch is used more often than a drill, and the fontanelle area on both sides is targeted rather than the parietal eminence.
The 10Fr catheter used in adults is too thick to be used. Instead, other catheters with a diameter of 1-2 mm are often used. At our hospital, we performed a burr hole using a catheter used for LP drainage.
